SpeedUp! Europe launch FIWARE Call focused on AgriBusiness, SmartCities and Clean Tech - Deadline 10 Dec '14

SpeedUp! Europe focuses on supporting SMEs and teams of 3 - 5 individual web entrepreneurs interested in developing applications based on the FIWARE Technology and enablers in the areas of AgriBusiness, SmartCities and Clean Tech by providing grant funding, technical training, business coaching and support to undertake a pilot.

The SpeedUp! Europe Consortium have physical hubs in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Hamburg and Stockholm (Kista).

Teams should have at least 3 members and a maximum of 5 members. Individual web entrepreneurs can apply by submitting details of their skills and experience via http://www.speedupeurope.eu and the programme will support them to participate in a start-up team to cooperate in submitting a proposal.

Proposals will comprise of the completed online application form and a pdf document of up to 10 pages following the structure outlined in the guidelines for proposers. The maximum budget available to each team is up to €50,000 to cover the following cost categories for an eight month period (Feb 2015 to end of October 2015): development software and equipment, travel costs, rental costs for office and grant for living costs if necessary (maximum of €1,000 euro per team member per month). Grants will be paid in instalments of €5,000 - €10,000 per month to the team bank account. 

Grantees will have access to a range of mentors and personal coaches. They will also have access to virtual tools (online platform for matchmaking, idea generation and call management) and a series of physical workshops organised across Europe to receive feedback from customers, partners and investors. It is envisaged that most of the team members will be resident at one of the main hubs in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Hamburg or Stockholm.

Projects will be evaluated by 2 - 3 external evaluators based on the following criteria on a scale of 1 - 5:

  • Implementation: quality of team (threshold of 4)
  • Impact: societal and ecomonic value of the targeted product/service (threshold of 3)
  • Technical Quality: Innovative use of generic FIWARE enablers going beyond a minimum level of funcational complexity (threshold of 3)

Across the entire programme, Speed UP! Europe has a budget of €5.5 million to be allocated in grants via open calls for up to 100 project teams.
