FInish launch FIWARE Call focused on Dynamic Supply Chains of Perishable Products - Deadline 10 Dec '14

Food Intelligence and Information Sharing for Business Colloboration enabled by the Future Internet (FInish) focuses on supporting SMEs and web entrepreneurs interested in developing applications based on the FIWARE Technology and enablers related to intelligent systems for dynamic supply chains of perishable products (Food Chains, Flower, Fruit & Vegetable Business and Logistics) on a cross border basis by providing grant funding, business coaching, workshop on business model development, training sessions and Business Networking at relevant trade shows.

It is expected that the project proposer will partner with a food chain supplier (for example, grower, trader, retailer, service provider, processor, manufacture, user organisations or association) who is willing to invest effort and/or equipment in the requirements analysis, testing and validation of the proposed solution. It is also necessary to have at least one user organisation committed to use the developed technologies.

It is necessary for services and applications proposed to have a high business impact on the agri-food supply chain network. 

Challenges identified in this space include:

  • Smart micro-logistics for individualised supply with food products
  • Intelligent Process Monitoring and Control
  • Food Factory of the Future
  • Risk and Crisis Management in Food Chains
  • Management of transport-related assets
  • Quality-controlled logistics

Proposals will comprise of the completed online application form and a proposal document using the template provided in Chapter 4 of the Call Text.

Grant funding can be used to cover the following cost centres:

  • development and research related costs
  • dissemination and test activites
  • accommodation and travel costs directly related to activities within the FInish accelerator
  • project management related activities

Applicants can apply for 100% reimbursement of direct eligible costs and a flat rate of 7% of indirect eligible costs. As highlighted earlier FInish requires applicatns to have a use case business partner. Financial support from FInish cannot exceed a ratio of 5/1 to what the busienss partner is brining in terms of cash or in kind funding (at least 16.7% shall be funded by use case business partner and a maximum of 83.3% financial assistance from FInish). 

Proposals are evaluated by independent expert evaluations based on three selection criteria: Business potential, Technological excellence and FI-WARE Adoption & Acceleration. The evaluations will be consolidated and the top-scoring proposals will be presented to the Executive Board. Successful projects will be informed during Spring 2015. 

Projects will run from 6 - 12 months and each grant for one or more apps will not exceed €150,000

Across the complete programme (September 2014 - August 2016) FInish has €4.8 million in funding to provide as grants under two open Calls: Call 1 €2.48 million and call 2 (opens March 2015) €2m. There is additional funding allocated for competitions (€250k) and best apps (€150k)

The second call will open in March 2015.
