EuropeanPioneers fund 12 SMEs/Start-ups from 10 countries in media and content sector under First FIWARE Call

EuropeanPioneers received 265 application from 30 countries under its first FIWARE Accelerator Call, which closed on 31 October 2014.

EuropeanPioneers is focused on four application areas:

  • Smart City Services
  • Pervasive Gaming
  • Social Connected TV
  • e-Learning

All applications must leverage the FIWARE technology and enablers as a condition of the grant award.

The selection was based a two stage process - online application by 31 October and then short-listed candidates will be invited to a two-day competitive Pitching workshop in Berlin.

EuropeanPioneers selected 23 SMEs/Start-ups out of the 265 applicants to participate in the two-day competitive Pitching workshop in Berlin. Subsequently 12 SMEs/Start-ups were selected to participate in the 8-month accelerator programme, which commenced on 08 December. 

The SMEs/Start-up are working in the areas of eLearning (3 organisations), Gaming (4 organisations), Smart City Services (3 organisations) and Social Connected TV (2 organisations) and are based in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain and UK. Each company will receive grant funding of between €50,000 - €250,000 depending on their project requirements, coaching and mentoring, access to a network and access to FIWARE Technology.

EuropeanPioneers does not provide co-working space. It focuses on providing grant funding, coaching and mentoring, access to a network and access to FIWARE Technology. 

Calls are open to SMEs participating alone and Startups with at least two founders.
